The GR20 from Corte
Corte is one of the finest bases to prepare for, break up or extend the GR20. Here is why, and how our studio makes your adventure easier.
The GR20, Corsica's legendary crossing
The GR20 is often described as one of the most demanding and beautiful long-distance trails in Europe. It crosses Corsica diagonally, north to south, over nearly 180 kilometres, through high mountain landscapes of rare intensity: ridges, cols, glacial lakes and dizzying views.
Many hikers do not complete the whole route in one go. Plenty choose to tackle the GR20 over several trips, or enjoy its finest sections. That is where Corte comes in.
Why Corte is an ideal base
In the centre of the island, Corte naturally splits the GR20 in two. It is a strategic access point to some of the finest stages, and a perfect place to pause, resupply and recover between sections.
From Corte you easily reach central GR20 sectors and superb hikes such as the Melo and Capitello lakes in the Restonica valley. The town also has everything you need: shops, gear, restaurants and transport.
Hiker's tip: a real night indoors, a hot shower and a comfortable bed halfway through changes everything. You set off again the next day with fresh legs and high spirits.
Stages near Corte
The central GR20 sector ranks among the most spectacular on the crossing. From Corte you can reach the section linking refuges around Monte Rotondo and the Rotondo massif, as well as trails to high-altitude lakes. These routes give a grand taste of the GR20, even on a single day.
For walkers committed to the full crossing, Corte is the ideal place to resupply or take a rest day without losing the thread of the adventure.

Preparing for the GR20
The GR20 cannot be improvised. A few simple principles will help you approach the trail calmly:
- Fitness: train beforehand, the elevation gain is demanding.
- Kit: broken-in boots, light pack, warm layers and windproof jacket, even in summer.
- Weather: in the mountains it changes fast. Check conditions each morning.
- Water and supplies: plan your water points and stages in advance.
- Season: June to September, when refuges are open and conditions safer.
Resting before or after the effort
Before you set off or when you return from the trail, our studio in Corte welcomes you for a comfort break. Reversible air conditioning to recover in the cool, a soft double bed, private bathroom and terrace to unwind: everything is designed to get you back on your feet. And with the town centre a ten-minute walk away, resupplying is easy.
